Gas BBQs
Is the enclosed hood on the BBQ double-skinned?
Yes. The top panel of the enclosed hoods of our gas BBQ’s are double skinned, helping to insulate internal cavity of the hood when cooking and roasting with the hood down. Our BBQ’s do differ from standard BBQ’s. Our jets conveniently can be used for both liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) cylinders or if you choose to run a natural gas (NG) line. What is required to be done by a licensed gas fitter or plumber, is to remove the jets that are currently set up for LPG and do an internal adjustment to the gas flow when you want to run NG to your BBQ.
On how this is done, is shown in the user manual step by step.

How can I best clean the Cast Iron Cooking Plates?
The easiest way to clean the grill is after cooking when the cooking plates are still hot. Wear a barbecue mitt to protect your hand from heat and steam. Scrub the hot cooking grates by dipping a bristled barbecue brush in tap water. Cleaning will be more difficult if the grill plates are allowed to cool down after cooking.
What's the best way to clean the Stainless Steel?
There are many stainless-steel cleaners available. Always use the mildest cleaning process first, scrubbing in the direction of the stainless-steel grain. Do not use steel wool, as this will scratch the surface. To touch up noticeable scratches in the stainless steel, rub very lightly with dry 100 grit sandpaper in the direction of the grain. Grease specks can gather and bake onto the surface of the stainless steel, giving the appearance of rust. For removal, use an abrasive pad with a stainless-steel cleaner.
How do I clean the Grease Pan?
The grease pan should be emptied, wiped down and washed after each use with a mild detergent and warm water solution. Check the grease pan frequently and do not allow excess grease to accumulate and flow out of the pan.

What is the best method to clean the ceramic glass cooking surface after cooking?
It is recommended that you clean the ceramic glass cook plates shortly after cooking when it has cooled to a safe temperature. We recommend using a strong, wet cloth and thoroughly wiping down the cooking plates, as well as the drip channel at the rear of the BBQ where fats and oils may collect on their way through to the drip cup. Don’t forget to empty out the drip cup after cooking. The cooking plates are resistant to sudden temperature change, so using cold water will not cause any damage. We do not recommend using any scrapers or harsh, abrasive products chemicals when cleaning the BBQ. Please read page 12 of the user manual for a detailed description and images of the best method for cleaning the ceramic glass cooktop.
Pizza Ovens
What type of wood should I use when operating my wood fired pizza oven?
We recommend using good quality, dry firewood when cooking in your pizza oven. Low quality or wet firewood will take much longer to heat up and can prevent the oven from reaching the desired internal temperature of 350oC and more. Typically, we use redgum firewood when cooking on our pizza ovens but other hardwoods such as ash, beech or oak would work well.
What is the best way to heat up our pizza oven?
Light a small fire in the middle of your pizza oven cavity using firelighters and good quality kindling. Slowly add bigger and more firewood to the fire until the bigger logs catch – this would typically take around 10 minutes. It is important to ensure that the fire is receiving plenty of oxygen within the cavity, so do not cover the oven cavity with the door at this early stage, and ensure the chimney is open so air can circulate through. Once the fire is lit and your oven is heated through, we recommend pushing the fire across to the side of the oven to allow space for the pizza. Keeping the fire running while cooking your pizza is recommended, as this will help to maintain a steadier internal temperature within the pizza oven.
Can my wood-fired pizza oven get too hot?
Be very careful to not start too big of a fire within the pizza oven. Always start with a small fire and gradually add small-medium pieces of firewood so you can get better control over the temperature within the oven. Do not use large pieces of firewood – smaller pieces work best. On your first use, you will most likely be surprised at how hot the oven can get and how little firewood you require. We recommend starting with just two small-medium pieces of firewood (once the kindling has been lit) and then slowly adding to the fire as required.
What is the ideal temperature for cooking pizza in my pizza oven?
The ideal temperature for cooking pizza in a wood fired pizza oven is between 350oC to 450oC. Keep in mind also, the internal temperature of the pizza oven cavity will drop slightly when you start putting pizzas in the oven. This should cook your pizza in around 2 to 5 minutes and will give it a nice, crispy crust in a traditional Neapolitan style.
How long does it take for my pizza oven heat up to the desired cooking temperature?
The amount of time it can take for the Smart Wood Fired Pizza oven to heat up can vary significantly depending on several factors including the ambient temperature, quality of firewood used, size of the fire and more. But we typically expect the pizza oven to take around 20 minutes to heat up beyond 350oC. However, we recommend letting the fire within the pizza oven run for a minimum of 10-15 minutes to ensure the internal cavity is thoroughly heated throughout. This will help reduce the amount that the pizza oven cools down when you start putting your pizzas in to cook.
Can I cook other food than pizza in my Smart Wood Fired Pizza Oven?
Yes – there is a whole heap of different things you can cook within your pizza oven including roasts, deserts, breads, and heaps more. Think of your pizza oven as just a regular oven and do some research online for recipe books!
What is the best way to clean my wood-fired pizza oven?
The best way to clean your wood fired pizza oven is incredibly simple! The first step is to let the fire within the pizza oven burn out and cool down completely. This will often take more than 12 hours as the pizza oven is very well insulated. Be extremely careful to ensure that the oven has cooled down properly before cleaning anything. Once the wood fired pizza oven has cooled down, you can sweep out any remaining coal and ashes into a dustpan with the supplied copper brush. You can also use the vent at the rear of the pizza oven to push any ash and dust out through the rear of the pizza oven, where it will fall down into the removable drip tray. We recommend cleaning out this removable drip tray before and after every use of your Smart Wood Fired Pizza Oven.
Refrigeration
Can I use my Smart Drinks Chiller Outside?
Yes. However, it is important to note that for the Smart Outdoor Drinks Chillers to operate in an outdoor climate, it is essential to ensure that the fridge is kept out of direct sunlight. These fridges have a glass door, so the internal temperature will be significantly affected by sunlight. It is also essential to ensure that you take note of the minimum cut out dimensions required for the fridge, as mentioned in the product listing. This will ensure that the drinks chiller motor gets adequate ventilation and airflow. Having a cabinetry cut-out that is too small will potentially cause the fridge motor to overheat, reduce the lifespan of your fridge and potentially jeopardise your manufacturer warranty.
What does the heated glass door on the alfresco drink chillers do?
The heated glass door on your outdoor drink chiller will help to prevent condensation build up. This is particularly common in humid climates, which includes most Australian cities – typically including Sydney, Adelaide, Perth, Brisbane & Cairns and any other areas further north than this. It is advisable to make sure that your outdoor drinks chiller has this feature if you are located in these areas. If you don’t have this feature, you will very likely get condensation build-up on humid days, which will lead to pooling water at the bottom of the fridge as the condensation runs down the door. This can lead to warped cabinetry and create a potential slip hazard.
How much noise do the Smart Drinks Chillers make?
The Smart Drinks Chillers are rated to a maximum noise rating of 45 dBA. The noise that these fridges make will vary as the compressor motor kicks in and out. So often the fridges will be making a very minimal amount of noise, then the compressor motor will kick back in to cool the fridge and it’s contents, which is when you will get a noise rating up to around 45 dBA. These drinks chillers are made specifically for outdoor climates, and are therefore quite high powered, to make sure they can handle Australia’s hot and humid climate. It is important to note that quieter fridges will very likely not be able to cool your fridge on the hottest of days, as they are not designed for this type of climate – hence, why they are quieter. So it is important to be aware of this when selecting the right fridge for your setting.
What do the telescopic rails in the Smart wine fridges do?
The telescopic rails help you to access your wine collection stored within your Smart Wine Fridge must easier. They have runners on the edges of the shelves, which allow them to slide out nice and smoothly so you can inspect and remove bottles of wine much easier and quicker. Please make sure to check the product listing, as not all wine fridges will come with this very handy feature.
Why should I store my wine in a wine fridge?
It tastes better! Storing wine in a cool climate with consistent temperatures and minimal amounts of light is extremely important with preserving the taste and quality of your wine collection. Keeping a bottle of wine in a hot climate can totally ruin the flavour of wine, and much quicker than you would think. This is why it is so important to have a good quality wine fridge or wine cellar if you are storing bottles of wine for a significant period.
